Background
IRID (Indonesia Research Institute for Decarbonization) is an Indonesia-based think tank focusing on policy analysis and policy advocacy to support decarbonization and resilience society. As an independent, merit-based and non-partisan organization, IRID supports gender equity. IRID will employ and treat people based on their capabilities that suit the need of the organization, not based on their gender, ethnicity, nor religion.
To support the implementation of the UK Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions (UK PACT) on Carbon Pricing by a consortium led by Ricardo with IRID and Tax Centre UI as the local partners, we are looking for a technical assistant on carbon pricing policy to be seconded to the Coordinating Ministry of Maritime and Investment Affairs (CMMIA). The project is funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and managed by Palladium since July 2022 and is expected to end in September 2025.
Scope of Work
The technical assistant will be dedicatedly seconded to and hosted at CMMIA office in a full-time basis with possibility to work beyond the office hours when needed.
Tasks/Duties:
- Direct support to the team of the Deputy Coordinating Minister for Forestry and Environ-mental Management;
- Provide technical assistance and research support on topics related to carbon pricing pol-icies within the boundary set by the FCDO;
- Provide administrative assistance in relation to the project implementation and other matters as requested by the CMMIA;
- Deliver the tasks under the supervision of the Assistant Deputy for the Climate Change and Disaster Management of CMMIA, and in close consultation with IRID and Ricardo;
- Report directly to the Assistant Deputy for the Climate Change and Disaster Management of CMMIA;
- Submit a monthly summary of the tasks performed together with timesheets to IRID; send brief updates at any time, if requested;
- Regularly liaise with Palladium/FCDO and join meetings with Ricardo, IRID and Tax Centre UI, and any other trainings/workshops, as required.
Qualification:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental policy, environmental engineering, economy or law with minimum 2 years of experiences in environmental, energy, or climate policies;
- Demonstrated understanding of Indonesia’s regulatory systems and relevant legal and policy related to energy, environment, and climate;
- Demonstrated understanding of energy, environment, and climate related issues, both at international and national levels;
- Ability to conduct policy analysis and prepare briefing in limited time and under time-pressure;
- Ability to work independently and demonstrated the ability to also work in a team;
- Ability to work fluently in both writing and orally in both English and Bahasa Indonesia, including in formal languages;
- Ability to organize events and coordinate with relevant stakeholders;
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
The technical assistant will be contracted by IRID and IRID will provide monthly salary with benefits as IRID’s employee, including tax and BPJS. The periodical review will be conducted based on input from relevant parties.
